S.M.A.R.T Shiggling

We've all heard of setting S.M.A.R.T goals but have you heard of S.M.A.R.T Shiggling?

Probably not cause I just made it up.

S.M.A.R.T Goals are:

  • Specific

  • Measurable

  • Attainable or Achievable

  • Relevant

  • Time-Based

⚠️Shiggle is currently a play for fun betting product with no real money ⚠️

Now, before I get into it, you may be wondering why I am talking about all this, and what it has to do with Shiggle?

Well, Shiggle gives you complete control over your betting but you probably haven't been making the most of this newfound power yet.

We find that a lot of people are still creating the same old bets that bookies have been offering them for years. Man U to win... Over 2.5 Goals... Mane to score... That's all well and good and I often place these bets myself but there is so much more you can do with Shiggle.

It's like getting a flying car and then choosing to sit in traffic on the way to work.

The other problem with old fashioned bets is that they tend to not be very enticing to your opponent.

I can't stand Liverpool but I stopped betting against them winning the league a looong time ago. It's painful enough without losing a load of bets as well.

So let's look at S.M.A.R.T Shiggling...

Specific

Make your bet description as clear as possible. You may know what you're talking about and your opponent may even know what you're talking about but if the bet is something like...

"I bet that I win"

...you are just asking for trouble when you're opponent tries to wriggle out of it.

Avoid the dreaded dispute at all costs! If you disagree with a result then you can dispute this result and ask Shiggle to step in to adjudicate. Obviously, bets like this make it impossible for any decision to be made by an outsider so you will end up with a void bet.

Not to mention that this bet makes no sense at all to anyone that is not with you at the time. Use descriptions that will make sense to people that are not with you at the time. e.g.

"I bet that I beat you at pool"

You can also add pictures to your bets to add context and make them more interesting.

A picture paints a thousand words...

Measurable

Avoid creating bets that are based upon opinion or things that can be taken out of context.

"I bet I can pour a better pint than you"

While this may be true. It's pretty hard to judge objectively. This doesn't mean you can't bet upon things like this. You just need to state how the ruling will be made. You could say something like...

"I can pour a better pint than you"

"We both pour 1 IPA, 1 Stella & 1 Guinness"

"John decides the winner based upon time, look and taste"

Attainable/Achievable (winnable)

One thing that the bookies have mastered over the years is the art of creating enticing offers that bring in the punters (i.e. you). It's now up to you to create the offers that your mates will go for.

Betting that you can eat an apple in under 3 hours is not going to get many takers yet we see a lot of offers that are almost as one-sided.

Any bet on Bayern Munich to win for example. They win every game about 5-0 so as much as I like Dortmund I am not really interested in betting against Herr Flick and his boys unless you throw in something else like...

"Bayern Munich to win and Lewandowski to score a bycicle from the halfway line"

Relevant

I will admit it. I love a bit of Politics. I find Politicians the most interesting people on the planet and the way that they dedicate their lives to making the world a better place for everyone really captivates me.

Anyway, let's pretend that's me, and let's also pretend that my mates are normal people. NAAAAAT.

I probably wouldn't get many bets on if every bet I placed involved the colour of some tory backbenchers tie.

Shiggle allows you to bet on anything you like but you still have to create bets that are interesting for other players.

Having said that, if none of your mates like the same things as you then you should probably find some new mates.

And remember, it doesn't have to be all about sports. Get creative...

  • I bet I can get to the gym at least 3 times next week

  • I bet Doris gets drunk and dances to the Macarena at the Christmas party

  • I bet Ian and Becky break up again in the next month

Time-Based

There are some things that just scream out for a bet. Who will win the league next year for example...(MAN U!!!)

Whilst this is a great bet it ties up your money for a long period of time. It's easy to forget about it and/or lose interest in something that is so far away.

Try to keep things fresh by placing short term bets that finish in the near future. This keeps your bets relevant and exciting and returns your money sooner so you can go again.

Having said that I will accept any bets against Man U winning the league next year.

Conclusion

The world is now your oyster. You have the freedom to create your own bets with your own rules.

Don't just mimic the bookies and try to fleece your mates with the same old bets. Get creative and come up with new games to play.
